Traveling abroad to Seoul for treatment: Some may have concerns and apprehensions about leaving home for treatment in Seoul. The author of this FAQ journeyed on their own and with concerns of language barriers, living conditions, cuisine, getting around, signage, shopping, and leisure activities. As it turned out the apprehension prior to the trip ended up being the only concern in visiting Seoul. Living in Seoul during treatment:From the moment you land until departure you will be in awe of the sophistication and eclectic cosmopolitan feeling of Seoul. The streets of Seoul are immaculately clean with no litter in the streets or graffiti on the walls. Walk the streets at night with the same comfort of walking at home or visiting my favorite vacation spot. As you experience a refreshing healthy cuisine and exotic Korean culture you will find Starbucks and McDonald's about anywhere in Seoul. There is also great selection of golf courses if you are a player. Language and Culture:You will find generous hospitality with politeness, respect and acknowledgment when requesting any product or service needs. Korean life is unique and bustles with energy. Language was not a problem since all Koreans are taught English in school and most establishments are well signed in English. Your Stay:Yes 2 months is an extended time to stay anywhere and the way I look at it, you might as well make the most of it and do something interesting. The proton procedure (check stories here) is noninvasive and has so little side effects so this being the case why not do something interesting. The proton centers in the US are all great facilities and each has its own attributes. But unless you are local, you will have a need to find something to do in your spare time. Traveling to Korea promises be a dramatic and memorable journey that will be a high point in your life. An old Korean proverb goes ‘even if you have to crawl on your knees, get yourself to Seoul!’ With so much going on, never has this been more sound advice. In order to present a composite story based on the experiences of several real patients who have been treated for prostate and other localized cancers, the storyline uses both fictional and real characters. This is the account of a man who discovers he has prostate cancer, investigates his choices for treatment, chooses proton beam therapy (PBT), and goes to Seoul, South Korea to be treated at the National Cancer Center.
